Hello!

I am engaging in the Gong Manager training and was intrigued by the chance to set up a renewals board. However, in following the instructions in the training, it doesn’t appear that it is possible. For example, in the “Show deals by date,” section the training suggests, “Closing this quarter.” But the only option I have is, “Sales Cycle Start Date.”

Would love clarity on how to build this renewals board.

@Rebecca Rogers Love hearing that you are setting up a renewals board! I just pinged some folks on our Education team (who created this training) for some guidance. Hoping to have an answer for you very shortly!

Hi @Rebecca Rogers, thanks for reaching out with this question!

It seems like you may have mixed up two related but different aspects of the deal board configuration, let me walk through both and hopefully clarify and help you move forward.

Show Deals by Date allows you to customize which date field from your CRM is the date field of reference for that particular Deal Board. The default field used is “Close Date” however you can use any other date field on the opportunity object you wish (such as Sales Cycle Start Date) once it has been imported to Gong in your instance’s CRM settings. If you’re looking to use a date other than Close Date or Sales Cycle Start Date, reach out to one of your Technical Admins and ask them to import that field to Gong. You can find a list of technical admins by clicking on your name/initials in the top right corner and clicking on My Settings and scrolling to the bottom of that page.

Farther down the Edit Board Page is the First Time View settings that allow you to dictate what someone will see the first time they access that deal board (subsequently they’ll see which ever view they last accessed on that board). One of the options dictates what time range worth of deals is shown and one of those options is “Closing this Quarter.” This dropdown of date range options also shows on the Deal Board itself so that the user can navigate between deals from different time periods.

The connection between these two settings is that the “Closing this XXX” field references whichever “Show Deals by Date” field is specified to display the deals with dates in the specified time range according to that date field.

I’m not 100% sure which manager training resource you’re looking at so if after reading what I shared above you feel like the training asset conflates or confuses these settings, please link if in your reply so that we can take a look at how we can clarify this better for future users.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions on this!
